What Is Zoom! Teeth Whitening?
Tooth whitening of a few shades after only one session
Zoom! teeth whitening method is aimed at removing both surface and inner stains from enamel and dentin. In the procedure a special whitening gel is spread over the teeth, and then it is activated by a UV light (the light used is Zoom! Advanced Light). This light breaks down the hydrogen peroxide within the gel at a faster pace thus aiding in stain removal.
With this method you can get a tooth whitening of a few shades after only one session at the dentist. Such treatment is efficient in stain removal e.g. coffee, tea, smoking, and even age-related stains. The whitening effect will vary depending on the initial color of the teeth and the degree of pigmentation. One may experience heightened tooth sensitivity, but only temporarily, after most dental whitening procedures.
Book AppointmentWhat Can Cause Tooth Discoloration?
Teeth get discolored from all sorts of things outside the tooth itself
- Like as people get older, the enamel wears down a bit, and that shows the yellowish dentin underneath, so everything looks darker overall.
- Foods and drinks play a role too, especially the staining ones. Coffee, tea, those kinds of stuff, red wine or even berries, they leave marks on the surface that build up over time.
- Smoking is another bad one, or chewing tobacco, it leaves these permanent pigments that are hard to get rid of.
- Then there are medications that can mess things up, particularly if you take them when your teeth are still growing as a kid. Tetracycline antibiotics, for example, might turn teeth yellowish gray or brown, something like that.
- Fluoride is tricky too, if you get too much during development, it causes fluorosis with white spots or brown ones on the enamel.
- Trauma to a tooth, especially when youre young, can damage the inside pulp and make it darken up. I think thats pretty common but not always obvious.
- Diseases that affect the enamel, or problems with treatments, they can lead to discolorations as well, though its not always clear how.

How Long Is The Procedure?
In-office and In-home
It’s only about an hour over all, start to finish. The actual procedure consists of one hour getting your teeth bleached after a short preparation phase.
The procedure ends with a five-minute fluoride treatment (we recommend a cleaning before the actual Zoom! Whitening session).
The Zoom! take-home gel takes four to eight hours per application. (Depending on the desired level of whitening, our dentist will let you know how long you should wear each application.)
An average of six shades* improvement after just three nights, as shown in a recent study. Our dentist will help you decide how many applications are best for you.
